Diagnosis:

Your first treament will involve a full consultation, including an assesment using traditional methods of tongue & pulse diagnosis as well as a brief questionnaire. The practioner works out a treatment plan from this information, that is individual to every person. Sometimes the diagnosis includes a body palpation of various parts of the body.

Medication/supplements: Please bring any medication/supplements you are taking, with its dosage and frequency of intake. Any scan results, MRI’s etc. are helpful.

Chinese Herbal Medicine is one of the great herbal systems of the world, with an unbroken tradition going back to the 3rd century BC. It is a complete medical system that has the ability to treat a great variety of conditions, including recently developed conditions. In fact in its country of origin it is not an alternative form of therapy, but is used in state hospitals alongside modern medicine. This system, just like in Acupuncture, is based on the very principles of Yin and Yang and the relative balance between these two opposing yet complementary aspects of any one phenomena; in this case being illness or disease.

Cupping circulates Qi and Blood in an area of pain and is therefore extremely useful at relieving muscle tension. It excels in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions such as back pain, sciatica, neck and shoulder tension etc. It is also said to release muscle toxins and activate the lymphatic system. Patients often comment it is like having a deep-tissue massage.

Moxa or “Jiu” is a stick made out of a compressed herb called Mugwort. It involves a combined treatment of heat and herbs to treat a great variety of conditions. Combined with acupuncture the effects of this method are amplified. Moxa’s heat penetrates the body quite profoundly and promotes a feeling of deep relaxation.

Ear acupuncture is a microsystem that is used in Eastern Medicine to treat conditions anywhere in the body. The use of ear acupuncture will increase the therapeutic effects of body acupuncture considerably. Auricular therapy is also widely used for addiction problems like smoking, alcohol and drugs.

Food is medicine. Food is what makes you function day by day, so you will be asked about your diet and habits around foods. Involves palpation and cutaneous stimulation where the skin is pressured in strokes by the back of a spoon. This results in the appearance of little small dots called “ Sha” that will disappear in no less than 2-3 days. This technique is used when there is a diagnosis of blood stasis considered to be pathogenic. This repairs the free-flowing circulation of the blood and in doing so relieving pain. Immediate relief is often experienced.
